ABOUT HELEN
Welcome to my virtual gallery, where I display a selection of my work. My name is Helen, and I am a visual artist living in London. My journey as an artist has been a lifelong adventure, shaped both by my formal education and my life experiences living with a disability.
Art Education and Qualifications
Art has been at the heart of my life from a young age. My Mum, who has an arts background herself, regularly took us to London galleries and we would help her set up her own exhibitions. I got my Bachelors Degree (BA Tradition and Technology in Creative Arts Practice) in 2002, where I studied painting, digital art, graphic design and sculpture. I subsequently gained a Masters Degree with Distinction (Women’s Studies) that dug deep into female and feminist-focused art history.
Digital Art and Accessibility
One of the most significant aspects of my artistic journey has been adapting my practice to the digital realm. Due to a disability, working with traditional mediums presents challenges that digital tools have helped me overcome. The flexibility, precision and endless creative potential of digital artmaking have become central to my practice, enabling me to explore new ideas and techniques that continually evolve my work.
Passion for Art
My passion for art is deeply rooted in my desire to communicate emotions, tell stories, and connect with a healing journey through my work. Whether I’m creating a self-portrait that captures parts of me that can only be expressed non-verbally. or a decorative artwork that brings me calm and joy, my art is always infused with depth and purpose.
Web Design Business
In addition to my work as an artist, I also run my own web design business. This work allows me to blend my artistic and technical skills, creating visually appealing and user-friendly websites for a diverse range of clients. Running my own business has taught me the importance of creativity in all aspects of life, and I bring the same passion and attention to detail to my web design work as I do to my art.
